Icicle Fight

Category : Holiday Games

Source : RIOT Youth Group

GrpSize : Any
Description : Supplies needed: straws, q-tips Students are split up into 2 teams. Give each student a straw, and split up q-tips evenly between the two sides. When you say go, students pick up the q-tips and blow them to the other side. After a pre-determined amount of time, say stop. The team with the fewest q-tips on its side wins. Or it can have no purpose other than an energy-waster. Beware: don't let your teens tilt their heads back to far or the q-tip will go into their mouths.

Mat-diving

Category : Indoor Games / High Activity

Source : RIOT Youth Group

GrpSize : Any
Description : This is a game we play every year on our youth retreat. Take a pile of bunk bed mats and stack them together to about waist-height. Spray pledge on the floor in front of them; other than that, the area about 6-9 feet in front and 1 foot to the side should be cleared. Have teens form a line behind the mats. Each teen runs towards the mat and jumps onto it, sending the teen and the mat to the floor. The mat will eventually slide to a stop. Whichever teen slides the furthest wins. This game is classic, and results in tons of laughter and hilarious pictures. Oh, and if you accidentally slide off the mat, you will leave your skin on the floor. :)

Still Another Shoe Game

Category : Indoor Games / Mild Activity

Source : RIOT Youth Group

GrpSize : Any size
Description : Split your group into 2 teams (if you have an extremely large group or a small space, you can use more teams, but it becomes complicated). Both teams should form a line sitting down, facing the same direction, right next to each other (they should look like the roman numeral two). Place a shoe between the people at the front of the line, with a youth staffer supervising. Each line should link hands. One student from each team at the back of the line should face backwards; everyone else should face forward and remain silent. Another youth worker sits at the back of the line with a quarter. To begin the game, they will flip the quarter. If it is tails, the students at the back of the line do nothing and the youth leader flips the quarter again; if it's heads, they squeeze the hand of the person in front of them. Once a student feels their hand squeezed, they need to squeeze the hand of the person in front of them. When the person at the front of the line feels their hand squeezed, the hit the shoe (be sure to have them leave their hand there). Whichever team hits the shoe last sends their front person to the back of the line. However, if a team hits the shoe and the quarter landed on tails, the front person from that team must go to the back. The team whose first person at the beginning of the game winds up at the front again loses.

Tone-Deaf Madness

Category : Indoor Games / Mild Activity

Source : RIOT Youth Group

GrpSize : Any size
Description : This game requires teenagers who aren't afraid to make fools of themselves. The only supplies you need are a CD player, CDs, and a set of headphones. Teenagers can pick any song they want (within your parameters). They put it in the CD player and put the headset on. They must sing along with the CD in front of everyone; the "problem" for them is that no one can hear the music - all you hear is them. The winner can be decided by group vote or by a panel, a la American Idol. A fun way to spice it up is to allow duets, in which case you would need either ear buds or a splitter so 2 sets of headsets can be used. We often use this as a contest to win discounts to youth events.
